New Model School (NMS) is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and highly organised Drama Teacher & LAMDA Instructor to join our school on a maternity cover contract. About the role:

The successful candidate will deliver engaging drama lessons across the school, provide private and small-group LAMDA tuition (which will be arranged via the permanent drama teacher), and lead the planning and production of four key whole-school performances: two nativities (Reception and Year 1), a Year 4 production in the spring and a Year 6 end-of-year production in the summer. There is also the opportunity to run after school clubs, depending on the interest of the children.

Key responsibilities include setting clear targets for development, assessing and recording pupil achievement, and providing meaningful feedback through both day‑to‑day marking and formal assessment. You will contribute to a positive, respectful classroom environment and maintain strong relationships that help children thrive.

The role also involves preparing evidence of planning for monitoring purposes and working collaboratively with colleagues to uphold the school’s standards and ethos.

Opportunity for LAMDA Instruction:

  • Teach private and small-group LAMDA lessons.
  • Prepare pupils for examinations, ensuring they meet the standards and assessment criteria of LAMDA qualifications.
  • Liaise with parents/carers regarding pupil progress, exam preparation, and scheduling.
  • Organise and oversee LAMDA exam entries, including liaising with LAMDA representatives.
  • There is also potential to lead an After-School Drama Club, subject to sufficient student interest.

About you:

This role is ideal for a passionate and experienced drama teacher who has proven experience in managing large groups as well as small or individual lessons, and has experience bringing performances from concept to stage.

Essential Criteria:

  • 2-3 years classroom teaching experience teaching drama to primary-aged pupils.
  • Experience delivering LAMDA lessons and preparing pupils for examinations.
  • Strong understanding of drama pedagogy and creative learning strategies.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Confident and inspiring stage direction and performance management.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Preferred Criteria

  • Relevant drama/performing arts qualification, or teaching qualification.
  • First Aid training.
  • Existing DBS within the last 3 months, or part of the DBS updates service.

Additional Information:

  • Reports to: Headteacher.
  • Start Date: June 1st 2026.
  • Contract Duration: 39 weeks with possible extension.
  • Working Hours (Until July): * Curriculum Lessons: Mondays and Tuesdays
    • After School Clubs: Mondays and Tuesdays 15:45 - 16:45.
    • Timetable dependent on LAMDA lessons.
